Change of Subject

It's not a happy time to be a Hillary supporter.  The battle has come down to one of perception (SD's) rather than election.  Unless the media is deliberately duping us so they can have some stupid "OMG Shocking West Virginia comeback," last night and today were very sad.

Anything can happen and I respect and support Hillary whatever she decides.  She has a theoretical chance to win but that adjective there is pretty operative.

In the sadness of today, when I got home, I realized I have been really engrossed in the primary process lately.  So I did other stuff.  Historically, whenever I stop paying attention to the race out of annoyance or just other things going on, Hillary starts winning.  Actually, now that I think of it, every candidate I support and follow closely loses (Gore, Kerry, Hoeffel) so maybe it's best if I never follow the Dem nominee since my support is like a CURSE.  I jest!

Before primary season heated up, I was doing a lot of music stuff so today I browsed through some of the songs.  I found a video I uploaded that I forgot about.  So here it is for anyone else who wants a change of subject for the overnight.

Old Maple

This is a song I wrote a while back after thinking about my grandfather who passed away many years ago. I called it Old Maple because of the nostalgia of being a youth out in his backyard with the many looming trees nearby. Like him, they were old, wise, caring, and paternal. And I was a wandering impressionable boy absorbing his solid guidance and kind ways. He may be gone, but the trees tower on.

Wow!  Thanks BPK.  Beautiful homage to your grandfather.

I've always been jealous of people who can play the piano.  I was cursed with breakfast sausage-like fingers.

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 2)

Thank you!  Nothing to be jealous of.

I've always been of the mindset that everyone has different talents and the more we all have, the more humanity as a whole has to offer.

FWIW, I don't bowl anymore because it messes around with my piano-grip afterwards.  It makes playing feel strange for a whole week.  Since I can't bowl, I can't be the president.  But someone else can.  :-)

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 1)

It's one of those things--you always want what you don't have.

Coincidentally, breakfast sausage-like fingers don't allow for a very good bowling score either--although I generally score much higher than Obama (in fact my 9 year olds score much higher than Obama lol).

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 1)

:-) !!

Although I support Clinton and rail against the "elitism" stuff, I was a bookworm and even though I don't drink much, when I do, it's usually wine and not beer.

But (shhhhh) I scored twice as high in bowling than BO too.  ;-)

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 3)

I did much the same thing; disengaged from the process for awhile. It really helps put a perspective on things and cool down.

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 3)

Yes, it really does.

No matter who wins the nomination, I'll have the same friends and family under Obama as I would under Clinton.

The same isn't true for McSame though cause he'd sand half the universe to war in the mid-East if he could.

I do take politics with a grain of salt and enjoy the humor of it.  Hillary's "Celestial Choirs" video makes me laugh cause she's like a stand up comedian there.  Also, last night on the news, one of the headlines during Indiana was "Hillary clings to slight lead."  I flat out knew that someone in the control room had done that on purpose and that they were probably giggling about it too.

Thank you for the change of Pace (2.00 / 2)

I think we could all use one right about now.

I do understand where you are coming from.  I was totally deflated when Edwards became a non-starter.  I didn't want to believe it because I am a huge populist and really didn't see another candidate pushing the issues I am interested in to the extent Edwards was pushing them.

I am still not a starry eyed supporter of anybody, but you know, it is kind of nice to take a breather from so much hope if you know what I mean (and no, I am not referring to a campaign slogan).

I intend to jump back into the fray in the General and probably Charlie Brown's campaign again.  I was there on election night to cheer him on, even though his candidacy is a looong shot in such a red district.

Once again, thank you for the song.

Thank you for the comment.

The John and Elizabeth were really smart to be on the sidelines for North Carolina.  If they endorsed someome, their endorsee's supporters would not care or remember, but the opposite camp would be angry and maybe hold a grudge.

Reserving their political goodwill for the causes they believe in was a good call.

I need you... (2.00 / 3)

Nice song!!

Re: I need you... (2.00 / 1)

I have given lots of lessons before.

Starting lessons young is a great advantage.  It's harder as the children get older.  And what a piano student learns about music in general (time signature, key signature, harmonics) is tranferrable to other instruments.  My brother and sister started on piano but abandoned it in favor of guitar.  My sister is great at the guitar.  My brother is good but he's more lazy than us.

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 3)

yeah i think im gonna take a little 'vay cay' from mydd and some other sites for a while. Its not healthy to follow anything this closely and frankly I think Im becoming an addict! an addict!! so i have to stop.

i should be studying for finals so i suppose i will hit the books, brush up on some music and some good reads.... maybe take some sign language classes.

Nice song, I've tried to play piano but it just doesnt stick with me.

I got addicted too!

You'll be ok with finals.  I used to get addicted to all sorts of distractions when I was in school, but towards the end, you can always pull it together.

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 2)

That's funny - I was actually thinking the same thing last night.  I moved apartments and didn't follow the news for a week, and when I finally tune in it's just in time to see the results roll in last night, which, for me, were good news.

First thing I thought of?  All the football games I've turned off in the fourth quarter only to read my team came back.  All the season I've watched closely where my team goes like 4-12, and the seasons I don't where they make the playoffs.

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 1)

Same!

Obama won Iowa, I stopped watching.  Next thing I know Hillary is on TV winning NH.

After Super Tuesday, well, after Wisconsin especially, my interest waned.  Then all of a sudden there she is winning Ohio.

Maybe if I turn away from politics enough, Godzilla will kidnap Donna Brazile and 500 Obama delegates and then Hillary can give a victory speech from San Juan, of all places.

Looking forward to Obama Girl's "Now I Have a Crush on Hillary" video.

I have another song on my page somewhere called "Crack House" which was an attack on institutions that indoctrinate people with hate.

Re: Change of Subject (2.00 / 2)

Great composition!  I play guitar, banjo, ukulele, hell...pretty much everything with strings--but piano keys absolutely baffle me.  I have a full size paino and a two keyboards, and more than anything else I just stare at them perplexed.  They hate me.

Great tune.  Thanks much for sharing it!  :)

The guitar is not my friend.  I can sit there and slowly get it to play the notes I need it to play but it's not natural to me.
