Meltdown: DailyKos turns on Markos

Lord of the Flies is all over Dailykos today as the shocking groupthink cannibalizes a new target:  Markos Moulitsas Zúniga.

Markos took the daring but admirable step of pointing out the obvious, namely, that Barack Obama is human and that not everything the man says is completely perfect or unassailable.  Markos disagreed with Barack Obama's unusual decision to appear on Fox News for political gain, a stance seemingly at odds with his earlier delegitimization of that "news" network.

Immediately afterwards, a community disapproval and "official" disownment of Markos' words skyrocketed up to the recommended list.  We should all take caution as we're seeing such irrational attachment to this icon of change, Barack Obama, that even the most innocuous and objective forms of dissent, questioning, and criticism have been villified.  This is a recurrence of the same groupthink that supported George W. Bush.  Evidently, so many people were so deeply touched by Barack's earlier cinematic performances, that their devotion now eschews logic.

The meltdown and pervasive sense of anxiety underscores a dramatic change in the dominant narrative's tone.  They know Obama's mathematical temporary lead is wearing thin and the untimely reappearance of Reverend Wright will probably govern the public dislogue for the remainder of the week and the twilight moments of Barack Obama's campaign.

No wonder he doesn't want to answer questions...

Note: the original footage of the Waffle incident now has embedding disabled by request. This was the only one I could get so pardon the little Hamas fear-monger in the beginning; the focus is the Waffle incident which shows beyond any doubt Obama's indignant refusal to answer difficult questions.

The Kos crowd are very largely crazy. No that's not the right word. Stalinist is the right word in that they go insane if anyone dissents. I've just finished reading a fascinating but horrific book called The Whisperers about life in Stalin's Russia. Kos group think bears a more than passing resemblance believe me.

If you have a problem with it, you might want to go elsewhere, because this is the reality based community, not the "Obama can do no wrong" community. The dude is human, believe it or not.
What's funny to me is that the same people who have criticized Clinton for legitimizing Fox, or who helped fight to kill the Fox News Democratic debates, are now busy rationalizing Obama's decision to appear on the network."

Those among us who have supported Obama as the least evil of the financilly-capable Democratic candidates have always know that he would disappoint from time to time.

At least (for now) none of Obama's campaign officials are making promos for Fox News.

Re: Meltdown: DailyKos turns on Markos (2.00 / 2)

As many have said privately & publicly, The Left Wing of the Democratic Party is No Different than the Right Wing of the Republican Party.

Left wing liberals are just the same as right wing conservatives.

Just a different agenda, different views, but both sides are the extremes of most americans.

Both Left Wing & Right wing are way way out of touch with most americans who are in the Middle.

Its the same zealots with Blinders on 24/7.

It is groups like Kos which will cause the defeat of Obama if he is the nominee.

One thing about the Left & the Right. No matter how many times the american reject them, they still don't understrand.

Ask Dukakis,Mondale, Ted Kennedy, McGovern, Jackson. If you want something very recent, ask why Dean was rejected by majority of dem voters.

Ask why Lamont was rejected by Blue CT's voters.

Our party will never ever win a Presidential election in the near future as long as the left wing picks their horse as the nominee.

Joe & Jane in middle america will Reject that candidate.

Wow, what a stupid thing to post on a progressive site.  But I sure to "agree."

Boy, I just HATE those terrible "liberals" with their universal health care proposals and their crazy ideas about not fighting stupid wars that don't serve US interests, but do manage to cost us dearly in blood and treasure.  Yep, those awful "liberals" and their ideas about a progressive tax code and insistance on balancing the budget.  Truly a bunch of crazy people that are so completely out of touch that they think the strong national majorities that support all of these ideas actually want us to follow through with such "liberal" policies.

Oh, and kudos for your lame criticism of Lamont.  He reallyl was a winger to think that it was smart to run against an unpopular war that the majority of his state was against.  Especially given that Joe L. kept all his promises about being a loyal democrat, working to elect a democratic president, etc.  Wait...

I love how you people here (1.25 / 4)

apparently think only people who agree with the blog administrator should post here. That a particular blog is nothing more than a big group hug.

Seriously get over it. People criticize Markos on Dailykos quite frequently. The only one making him out to be larger than life are the people here who resent his support of Obama.

Which he proved, quite effectively today, is not blind hero-worship, such as the support here of people like Alegre, Campskunk, TexasDarlin, Linc, and several others...who simply don't have it in them to criticize their candidate. if Hillary were to shoot Chelsea, we'd see diaries from each of them on why Chelsea deserved it.

Markos supports Obama...that doesn't mean he can't criticize him, nor does it make him a hypocrite for doing so. Several people on here don't support Clinton, they hero-worship her. Big difference.

Re: I love how you people here (2.00 / 3)

That's not the point.

Markos can criticize all he wants.  This diary isn't about him; it's a focus on the horrible reaction he got from his own website merely for stating an opinion that wasn't 100% flattering and kowtowing to Barack Obama.

and if Jerome were to post a similar article about Clinton (which he should have long ago, on either Johnson or Ferraro), he'd get the same treatment from a portion of this community.

A portion of this community simply can't stand any criticism of Hillary Clinton, no matter how mild or how fair. Apparently some at Dkos can't handle the same when thrown at Obama.

So both sites have nutbags for their candidates...what exactly is the story here?

Re: LOL! (2.00 / 1)

They're paying attention, but they're bickering with each other on why it's happening. You got the realists, the reason I was forced into exile, saying Obama's campaign is faltering and he's at risk of losing it, and it's Wright's fault, Obama's fault, their fault

and then you got the fanatics who are trying to keep the sun shining at any cost, screaming down the realists, blaming Hillary, the media, and everyone else under God's blue sky and constantly reminding people that they won't vote for Clinton, as if it really mattered...I know more Clinton supporters who won't vote for Obama

so basically McCain gets to cross off President from his bucket list.

Re: Meltdown: DailyKos turns on Markos (none / 0)

Actually, that's the way that a blog should function - the owner states an opinion, some disagree.  That it doesn't happen here all that often is not necessarily praiseworthy.

From day one at dKos .... (2.00 / 4)

I constantly had the feeling I was an extra on the set of a bad 'B' movie from he 1960's called "Wild in the Streets".

Hell's bells, even the GOP didn't have to crucify Eisenhower's record in order to make Reagan their 'saint'. We can have two great ones, you know?

Re: Meltdown: DailyKos turns on Markos (2.00 / 3)

So Obama invited the bunch who are unhappy with him to go someplace else if they don't like the Reality Based Community on DailyKos.  Lol.  There is so much that is funny about that.  How many people has he invited to leave his blog in the last 6 months? Hundreds, i think hundreds of them! I mean where would they go?  There isn't any blog that is more pro Obama than DK, except maybe the one on the Official Obama website.  And I hate hate hate, the phrase Reality Based Community.  I have always hated that saying.  It is soooooo phony, and strange for people to think that their reality is the only reality.  Anyway, thanks for letting me get that out of my system.  Markos always makes me laugh, but in an ironic sort of way.
